Old Sturbridge Village: When 21st century infrastructure collapsed, the founders of the town got a jump on the new order of things by salvaging 19th century infrastructure, such as it was. The replica 1800’s village contained a working water-powered sawmill, gristmill, and carding mill. It also had exhibits of tools for blacksmithing, shoemaking, and other useful activities. Living space is nicely augmented by the hotels surrounding the tourist site. The fields needed to be expanded and still aren’t as developed as other sites, making the settlement more dependent on trade. The reliance on old-school tech also redirected their focus from acquiring, repairing, and rebuilding modern technology.
